What not to do when visiting Kyrgyzstan
Don’t forget to shake hands when greeting and departing - a nod of acknowledgement is also common. Good friends and family exchange kiss on each cheek and hugs.

Don’t hunt or take trophies without a proper license.

Don’t make the ”o” sign with one hand and slapping the top of it with the other hand (palm flat) once or twice - it’s considered rude. Extending the middle finger is rude too.

Did you know?
The longest poem in history was written in Kyrgyzstan.
Don't use your left hand when giving or receiving things.

Don’t expect locals to be direct communicators - they tend to speak in a very roundabout manner.

Tell us your experience
We love to hear from people who have travelled the world and know ‘what not to do’. Why not help other people on their travels?
Don’t be surprised by people entering a closed room without knocking. It's common, and for them, it’s surprising if you lock the door to your room or ask them to knock before entering.

Still looking for somewhere to stay?
Book a holiday you will tell your friends about.
