What not to do when visiting Vatican City
Don't go to the Vatican in a tank top - be respectful and dress modestly.
Don’t enter religious sites and church wearing tight or revealing clothes - dress conservatively whenever possible in the Vatican.
Don't forget visitors and tourists are not permitted to drive inside the Vatican without specific permission.
Did you know?
Vatican City is home to the highest percentage of art per capita.
Don't forget the Vatican City is easily travelled by foot - wear appropriate shoes due to steep climb if visiting locations up Monte Mario.
Don’t forget to handshake when greeting (men). Women usually greet with light kisses on both cheeks (”air kisses” where you just touch cheeks and kiss the air), a handshake is common on first meeting. Eye contact is important.
Don't smack or slurp - it's not appreciated.
Don't avoid eye contact business and personal conversations. It's a sign of courtesy.
Don't enter buses, trains or similar before everyone who wants to get out has done so.
