What not to do when visiting Burundi
Don’t forget the social status is very important - person’s posture, body movements and way of speaking are signs of status.
Don’t photograph certain sensitive buildings such as airports, military installations or government buildings. Always ask for permission.
Don’t ignore mosquito-borne diseases - always be cautious in advance and prevent Malaria and other diseases.
Did you know?
In eastern Africa, you can buy beer brewed from bananas.
Don’t necessary travel near the border areas with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Cibitoke Province including Route Nationales 5 and 10 from Bujumbura and Kayanza, Ruvubu National Park and the provinces of Karuzi, Ruyigi, Muyinga, and Cankuzo - there’s a higher threat of armed violence, banditry and kidnapping.
Don’t be surprised with frequent power shortages, especially during the dry season and after nightfall.
