What not to do when visiting Guinea
Don’t photograph military and transporting facilities, government buildings or public works without permission.
Don’t forget to shake hands with asking about the family and common things when greeting (men) - handshakes tend to be a bit longer. When meeting someone higher, a small bow is customary.
Don’t discuss politics, religion, sex and gender issues.
Did you know?
Guinea has the largest mosque in sub-saharan Africa, which is capable of seating 12,500 worshipers.
Don’t show love affection in public (kissing, showing a lot of skin, sexual discussions...) - it’s considered as taboo in religious circles.
Tell us your experience
We love to hear from people who have travelled the world and know ‘what not to do’. Why not help other people on their travels?
Don’t necessarily accept an unsolicited offer of assistance at the airport or hotels - they may seek opportunities to rob the bags.
