What not to do when visiting Liechtenstein
Don’t forget to shake hands when greeting, maintain direct eye contact. Light hugs are common among friends.
Don’t label locals to German, Austrian or Swiss - Liechtensteiners are very proud of their national identity.
Don’t forget there’s no airport serving the country - travellers usually use the airports nearby in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and then drive into the country.
Did you know?
The artist "Snoop Dogg" genuinely thought he could rent the whole of Liechtenstein for a music video. And in fact, it would have been possible, if he had not asked them at such short notice.
Don’t expect shops and most of the services to be open on Sundays.
Don't be late for both social and business meetings.
Don't block the bike lanes and don't step into it.
Don’t forget to handshake when greeting (men). Women usually greet with light kisses on both cheeks (”air kisses” where you just touch cheeks and kiss the air), a handshake is common on first meeting. Eye contact is important.
Don't smack or slurp - it's not appreciated.
Did you know?
Lichtenstein is the leading producer of false teeth. Particularly popular are black prostheses in countries such as India, where black teeth are regarded as beauty ideals.
Don't avoid eye contact business and personal conversations. It's a sign of courtesy.
Don't enter buses, trains or similar before everyone who wants to get out has done so.

We love to hear from people who have travelled the world and know ‘what not to do’. Why not help other people on their travels?
Don't forget to wear reflectors when riding a bike or walking at dark.
