What not to do when visiting Monaco
Don’t forget Monaco has one of the highest standards of living in the world - prices too.

Don’t wear the beachwear outside the beach or poolside - the locals are Very strict on attire, and there are also signs reminding you this.

Don’t panic when you meet some celebrity or famous athletes - Monaco is known as an international tax haven and exclusive home of many successful people. Respect privacy.

Did you know?
You can walk the whole of Monaco from north to south in 52 minutes (according to Google Maps).
Don't block the bike lanes and don't step into it.

Don’t forget to handshake when greeting (men). Women usually greet with light kisses on both cheeks (”air kisses” where you just touch cheeks and kiss the air), a handshake is common on first meeting. Eye contact is important.

Don't smack or slurp - it's not appreciated.

Don't avoid eye contact business and personal conversations. It's a sign of courtesy.

Don't enter buses, trains or similar before everyone who wants to get out has done so.

Did you know?
Monaco’s ruling Grimaldi family is the oldest ruling family in Europe and have run the country since 1297.

We love to hear from people who have travelled the world and know ‘what not to do’. Why not help other people on their travels?
Don't forget to wear reflectors when riding a bike or walking at dark.
