What not to do when visiting Poland
Don't forget to shake hands and maintain direct eye contact when greeting. With friends, a simple hello or nod of acknowledgement will suffice, but light kissing in one or both cheeks is common.
Don't buy imported vodka. You are in the country of where the spirit was invented. Go with Polish originals (the list is so long).
Don’t photograph military or national security buildings.
Don’t take the verbal confrontations personally - Polish people tend to be direct in communication. Humour plays a big role and sarcasm is generally used and understood.
Don't break the eye contact when proposing a toast. Some say if you look away, you're doomed to many years of bad sex.
Don't forget, saying "Thank you" to a service persons means 'Keep the change'.
Don’t forget to handshake when greeting (men). Women usually greet with light kisses on both cheeks (”air kisses” where you just touch cheeks and kiss the air), a handshake is common on first meeting. Eye contact is important.
Don't smack or slurp - it's not appreciated.
Don't avoid eye contact business and personal conversations. It's a sign of courtesy.
Don't enter buses, trains or similar before everyone who wants to get out has done so.
Don't forget to wear reflectors when riding a bike or walking at dark.
Don't be surprised the city shuts down on August 1 at 5pm - for commemorates the date in 1944 when Warsaw Uprising began.

Don't be surprised with cars parking on the sidewalk - it's very common.
