What not to do when visiting Yemen
Don’t forget to shake hands when greeting. Always wait for the woman to extend her hand (if at all).
Don’t show love affection and don’t touch opposite sex in public - it’s looked down upon.
Don’t photograph military installations and military personnel - it’s forbidden.
Did you know?
Yemeni men traditionally bring shortly curved daggers when in public.
Don’t speak loud or in aggressive tone - better to speak in a calm and relaxed tone, listening intently.
Don’t wear tight and revealing clothes, especially if you’re a woman - arms, legs and head should be covered.
Tell us your experience
We love to hear from people who have travelled the world and know ‘what not to do’. Why not help other people on their travels?
Don't bath naked or topless.
